Tamdhu Distillery was built in 1896, just north of Ballindalloch in Speyside. Although famous as a part of Scotland’s most prestigious blends, the single malt produced by Tamdhu is well worth the effort required to find a bottle.
This fresh and fruity whisky shows supreme balance for its age, with a foot in nearly all flavour camps. The nose offers both fresh and dried fruit, an enjoyable touch of oak and the merest whiff of wood smoke. The palate is vibrant and spiced with a pleasing nuttiness on the finish. A little time in the glass brings out more notes from the sherry wood with prunes and spent fireworks. The finish is awash with warm baking spice and new leather.
