This powerful Speyside single malt, matured in a soft refill butt, was distilled at the Craigellachie Distillery. A single malt whisky primarily produced for Dewar's blended whiskies, it has also been released as a single malt in recent years. Fortunately, it's still occasionally bottled as a single cask, and this one from Berry Bros & Rudd is a fantastic example, at a very reasonable price! This single cask whisky from Berry Bros & Rudd was bottled in 2023. A total of 434 bottles were produced from this cask, and the whisky was bottled at 54.3% ABV.
Nose: Aromas of dried barley, warm hay, and digestive biscuits. After a while in the glass, a dry oloroso sherry note integrates with a rising smokiness.
Palate: Full and bold with juicy barley candy, dried fruit, and some citrus flavors.
Finish: Long, with waves of wood spice, charcoal, and more barley.
