BERRY BROS & RUDD SC Suth. 2000 Odyssey

THE PROCESS

Clynelish Distillery is located in Brora, on the northeast coast of Scotland (Highlands). It was originally founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford (later Duke of Sutherland). The current distillery dates back to 1967, when it was rebuilt alongside the old buildings, which later became known as Brora Distillery.

Clynelish is known for its waxy, fruity, and slightly salty character, often described as a distinctive "waxy Highland style." This unique texture makes the whisky a favorite with blenders—it's a key component of Johnnie Walker Gold Label, for example.

Clynelish single malts are typically medium-bodied, with notes of honey, beeswax, apple, citrus, and sea salt.

TASTE PROFILE

Nose: A vanilla base with hints of sour apples and lemons with some rhubarb and plasticine. There’s a touch of leather, light notes of candle wax and then a proper hit of shortbread. Quite delicious but not very typical.
Taste: Somewhat waxy mouthfeel, but we’ve had much waxier examples of Clynelish. Then pepper with a touch of oak char and a nice balance between tartness and sweeter notes. There’s a pinch of salt too, as well as gentle medicinal elements. Plaster, wool.
Finish: Medium length. Hints of almonds, some aniseed and a drop of honey.
