BERRY BROS & RUDD SC Ruadh Mhor 2010

THE PROCESS

Ruadh Mhor, meaning "Great Red" in Gaelic, is a heavily peated spirit made at Glenturret, Scotland's oldest licensed distillery. Previously considered only a blend, it has come into the spotlight in recent years and established itself as an exceptional single malt.

TASTE PROFILE

The nose opens with a captivating blend of sweet fruit and peat – coal smoke curls around notes of caramelized walnuts, moist rubber, and an explosion of red berries. The influence of the Oloroso cask is immediately noticeable, creating layers of dried fruit, toasted nuts, and a subtle oxidative richness. On the palate, a dense, oily texture carries a delightfully dissonant blend of coal smoke and butterscotch, where charred wood meets chewy caramel. Juicy raisins and a jammy red fruit character add depth, contrasting with earthy, ashy notes. The finish is long and smooth, with a hint of sweet smoke and a touch of salted caramel.
